The Four Families, while not an "official" organization, are the de facto rulers of Rivertown, using their wealth to keep a standing private army, the MPD. The families and the most important members are:
Family Head: Frederika Reichman The Reichmans are the current “Power Family” within the MPD. Having owned much of the property the MPD complexes reside on for generations, the Reichman's have built up a small fortune and amassed a number of loyal guards. However, due to the recent death of the family patriarch, a power struggle has erupted within the family. Not being content with owning a mere portion of the family fortune, all three family heirs have each allied themselves with one of the other three families of the MPD.
While Frederika Reichman still has control over the family fortune, and thus much of the MPD, she has little to no interest in politics and business, and thus many doubt her ability to lead.
Family Head: Silas Johnson The Johnsons are the militaristic arm of the MPD families. Having the least amount of wealth and clout to throw around, the Johnsons work closely with the actual MPD forces. Some family members even enlist in their ranks. Due to this, they have some very close relations with the actual armed forces. However, due to their financial constraints, they can't promise the same kind of luxury the other families can.
Family Head: Barrett Lukowski The Lukowskis are the largest family within the MPD. With so many members, they are involved in a little bit of everything. Some are MPD guards, some work the trade routes, but most work in intelligence. Having various ties to every important person, place, and faction within Rivertown and its surrounding communities, the Lukowskis fill a very important niche within the MPD.
Being a family of spies, socialites, and diplomats, the Lukowskis cast their vast web over the entire Rivertown area. Few things go on without their prior knowledge. They are willing to share their secrets with the other families as well as the actual MPD armed forces, but only if they can somehow benefit from it.

Having established many long reaching trade routes, working the caravans have allowed the Reyes to become shrewd businessmen and women. However, due to the fact that the lend their best soldiers to guard the caravans, the Reyes don't have many guards on the actual MPD premises. Because of this fact, they are most likely to employ highly aggressive and sometimes dangerous guards to protect themselves.
